The Coldest Winter...
Mark Twain once wrote that the coldest winter he ever spent was a summer in San Francisco. Today would have warmed the old man's heart, except we're 300 miles further north. Here we are in the middle of March and a cold breath from the sea sends the locals scurrying for their warm coats and woolen socks. It takes a lot for the locals to get cold here in Humboldt, where cold is just another of the charms of the redwoods. Cold and rain, and we had them in abundance this week.
This morning it rained so hard it sounded like Heaven's angels were finally going to serve that search warrant on my house to discover my many sins, and were knocking vigorously at the door. "Angel cops! We have a warrant! Leave all the incriminating evidence in plain sight!"
Alas, my life has been so dull lately that the closest to incriminating evidence is "Maxim" magazine, which is sent to me because I bought some CDs at a record store some years back and I've never figured out how to unsubscribe. Besides, they have some pretty fine young...uh, writers. Yeah, that's it. I read it for the articles.
Well, that's about all that keeps me warm at night these days, my friends, and it ain't much. But that's a rant/whine/depressing scrill for another time and another audience. Now, the monkey will continue to dance for your delight. Please ignore the interruption to the happy chatter.
Speaking of monkeys...my son says to me last week, "We used to think that a million monkeys typing randomly would eventually recreate the works of Shakespeare. But we know now that this isn't true because we've had the internet for 15 years now and it hasn't happened." I didn't want to spoil his joke by pointing out that you can, indeed, find the works of Shakespeare on the net in a number of places. (like Shakespeare.mit.edu)
Well. Tomorrow I travel to Monterey on mysterious business which I may or may not reveal on this blog, depending on how the business turns out. You'll just have to wonder.
In the meantime I prepare for a trial next week...and the week after... and the week after. I have four trials set between now and the middle of April, so I'll suddenly be a busy man.
Which is fine, because in this cold, it's good to keep moving around.
