Where have you been?

I mean, really. I've been here all along just living my dull and foolish life. And where the hell did you get to? I mean, you didn't even send me a Chirstmas card this year. Or last, for that matter. What? You mean you actually came to this blog looking for me and I was gone? Well, I'm not dead. Not yet, anyway. It'll happen sooner or later. It's not something I look forward to except after long hours sitting in the Family Law court listening to the husbands and wives rag on each other. Even at that, I would be content to chew my leg off and quietly escape.

So what did you miss? Well, first of all, my beautiful and talented son, Adam, is off to college. I mean, the big college. UC Berkeley, if you must know. The boy is studying Physics and was thinking about a double major in mathematics until he got to Berkeley and discovered that he's not the only smart kid in the world. Still, he pulled solid grades for his first semester away from home and we're expecting him to pull down the Nobel Prize or the Fields Medal or some such honor before the end of June.

He did get one nice plum: He's working with the professor who won the Nobel Prize last year. He is just a Junior, so they give him the irritating things that no one wants to do but needs to be done. He worries that maybe he's not making any great discoveries but I keep telling him that his role is to clear away the brush, not to be the trail blazer. I'm sure the prof understands and appreciates that he's doing grunt work and is not expecting brilliance from him. Yet.

As for myself, well, I continue to work this damned practice. I have tried several times to get another job but, it seems, the world needs me here in this little office helping those who can't afford the pricier attorneys in town. Oh, I did move my office from the airport to Central Ave in McKinleyville, so that I no longer have to go through five minutes of explanation about how to get to my office and what do to when one gets there. And the office is nearly twice as big for a third less of the rent. Can't beat that.

I did win a nice little legal victory last year late. I represent a lady who was breast feeding her kid. At one point she smoked some meth and two days later, the child died. The DA wanted to charge her with second degree murder--a life sentence--but I was able to show the judge that the charge was not supported under the law and, at least for now, the murder charge has been dropped. I hope this leads to a resolution for the poor woman, who has been in jail for more than a year. She's ready to clean up.

As for the music--I know some of you come here for the music--well, I am still playing and singing because I love to play and sing. I know, at the age of 55, I am not going to become rich and famous doing so. Guess what? I don't care. I don't, not at all. Not even a little bit. Geesh, those guys and gals who become rich and famous turn into weird and petulant human beings. I am already obnoxious enough, I don't need to be rich and famous to aggravate the condition.

So I'm actually playing this Friday night at Plaza Design in Arcata for Arts Alive. They called me--they lost their music at the last minute and immediately thought it would be nice for the Man In White to come back. So here I am.

So come by and say hello this Friday. It's been a while, buddy. We need to catch up.

Please, keep writing to us!

I'll do my best. Life tends to distract me from the internet all too often.
